TheBestIRS recently attended NACA 2018 in Las Vegas, NV and were given the opportunity to network with thousands of insurance professionals including claims adjusters. We had a great time meeting and interviewing candidates. We also realized after many trade show exhibitions, there are a few trade show tips we can share:
Wear the right shoes.
Woman or man, wearing comfy shoes is a necessity when attending a conference. Whether you are walking around or standing all day certain body parts will be pushed to the limits. So, come prepared with comfy and reliable shoes and you won’t end up having to throw some away prior to leaving, like myself. Things to consider when selecting your shoes: your toes are not being forced in a direction other then their natural position and that your shoes fit snuggly and do not slip or slide against your heels.
Don’t be shy.
Conferences are a great way to meet new people. Get out of your comfort zone and mingle! Every event we attend we meet with numerous people who had no idea there was a niche business like TheBestIRS. We specialize in insurance staffing and direct hire recruiting. What do you do? This is your chance.
Bring business cards.
Hopefully this is a no-brainer, but many people run out of business cards or forget them completely. Come prepared with plenty of business cards. You don’t want to miss the chance to connect with a potential client or mentor.
Put the phone down.
I know being away from the office can be stressful, especially when we have calls or people waiting for our response. We might be out of the office, but conferences are no vacation – we’re all trying to multi-task to the best of our ability. Make sure you put the phone away and converse with individuals and make the most of the event – for your sake and your employer’s.
Have a good time but NOT too good of a time.
Make sure you’re prepared to work hard and play hard. Finding a good balance can be tricky for new attendees and even trade show veterans. Show your boss you are responsible and reliable by being punctual to your seminar or exhibitor booth. Remember, sleeping under your trade show booth will not reflect well on you or your company.
