Over the past few years, I’ve seen a surge in standing desk articles as well as the actual desks appearing in the workplace. Many of our employees have begun using them, and we are seeing positive results. Are you wondering if you should use one at your insurance job? Read on to learn more about the benefits of utilizing a standing desk at your claims adjuster job.

You’ll burn calories using your standing desk at your insurance job.

Here at our office, many of us use the Varidesk app. It reminds us when we need to stand or sit and keeps tracks of our calories burned throughout the day. One employee says she loves watching the calories she has burned!

If your main reason for choosing to use a standing desk at the office is to burn calories though, you could cause more harm than good. By focusing on the calorie burn, some people will avoid sitting down even when they begin to tire or their muscles are hurting. Take a break from your standing desk when that happens.

Frequently moving from standing to sitting throughout your day while at your insurance job can help keep you focus. I know from experience that when I need to really concentrate, moving to a standing position often gives me better mental clarity to complete the task at hand. Try using a foot rest to change up the amount of pressure you’re placing on your feet and be sure you alternate between standing and sitting.

Make sure your standing desk is ergonomic.

If you choose to use a standing desk at your insurance job, make sure the desk is positioned so your wrists can remain straight. Your computer monitor height should be at eye level or a little lower. Also, any items you might frequently use such as your phone, pens, paper, etc. should be close to your body. Consider investing in an anti-fatigue mat for when you’re standing during your day. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on a standing desk.

If you’ve been seeing articles about standing desks, they’re the latest rage for the office. This means there are tons of options and versions. Whether you want to have a do-it-yourself version or you’d rather purchase one, there are plenty of options. I’ve seen people create their own out of books or items purchased from Ikea, while others choose to find their standing desk online. While all of these options work, remember it’s what is most comfortable and affordable for you. It won’t matter if you spent $500 on a standing desk if you don’t use it at your insurance job.
